Rose Park, South Australia

This project was a real challenge from start to finish, but I am sure you will agree the end result was worth it all.

We started with a single fronted attached villa in Rose Park and the initial brief was to add on an open plan Kitchen/Dining/Living area and tidy up the internal rooms to accommodate the family. However we quickly realised that there was much more involved in this renovation with the state and age of the building really in bad shape.

The clients then wanted us to explore the possibility of using the available roof space for a potential Master Bedroom/Ensuite/WIR roof addition and after several rounds of design and negotiating with Council, we managed to get sign off and start on site.

The design comprises a wonderfully finished open plan Kitchen/Dining/Living area featuring a beautiful Kitchen joinery, reclaimed red-brick feature wall, polished concrete flooring and custom designed entertainment unit and wood storage. We were also able to add in a brand new Laundry and amazingly fitted out Bathroom. One of the existing bedrooms was converted into an open play room which allowed us to open up the entry and stairs to provide a really beautiful entry.

In the upstairs Master Bedroom, the ceiling angles reflect the complex roof structure above, but provide an element of interest upon entry. These lines transfer through to the Ensuite which has enabled us to insert a triangular shaped window above the shower recess for much needed natural light.

This was a beautifully finished addition and renovation with very happy clients. We also managed to achieve a Commendation Award in the 2009 HIA Housing Awards for Renovation/Addition $250,001 to $350,000.
